From Haydn to Tango: A Fiesta of Music for String Quartet
Chamber Music Charleston (CMC) is thrilled to announce a very special string quartet concert at the Park Circle Community Building on Wednesday, September 25 at 6:30pm.
Join us for a casual exploration of the string quartet – starting with the music of the “Father of the String Quartet” Franz Joseph Haydn and then traveling across the ocean to discover the music of South America. This program demystifies classical music with entertaining anecdotes and insights that one may not expect at a traditional classical concert.
Violinists Jenny Weiss and Tomas Jakubek, violist Ben Weiss, and cellist Timothy O’Malley will perform movements from Haydn’s String Quartet Op. 76, No. 1, Dvorak’s “American” String Quartet, Teresa Carreño String Quartet in B minor, and Jose Elizondo’s Danzas Latinoamericanas in addition to arrangements of such popular tangos as El Choclo and Jealousie.
This program is part of CMC’s Hispanic Heritage Month events, which include the free Fiesta on the Square in Summerville (Friday, September 27 from 6-9pm) and the Season Opening Ovation Concert “Tango Meets Classical: Music of Boccherini and Piazzolla” (Sunday, September 29 at 3pm).
