Camellia Walks: Jan 16 – Feb 29

Each winter, the beauty of camellias enhances America’s Oldest Landscaped Gardens at Middleton Place with thousands of blossoms. Special 11:00 am walking tours given by expert guides focus on historic camellias, including the 1786 Reine des Fleurs, one of the first camellias planted in America. “Chicken & Biscuits”: Jan 24 – Feb. 11

Broadway’s hilarious new comedy, Chicken & Biscuits, introduces the Jenkins, the first family of their African-American church.   Join the congregation and watch as family bonds are tested and long held secrets are revealed in this heartfelt modern comedy about good old-fashioned family drama. Play at the Historic Dock Street Theatre.

Lowcountry Oyster Festival: Feb 3

 The Lowcountry Oyster Festival at Boone Hall Plantation is the world’s largest oyster festival with 45,000 pounds of oysters! Highlights include live music on the main stage, raw oyster eating and shucking contests, wine,  domestic and imported beers, specialty cocktails, a Children’s Area and a “Food Court” showcasing a variety of local favorite restaurants to satisfy everyone’s taste. “Proof” at Queen Street Playhouse:  Feb. 2-4, 9-11 & 16-18

Southeastern Wildlife Exposition: Feb. 16-18

South Carolina Stingrays Hockey home games: Feb 10,17,18 and 21.

Getting Around Charleston, SC

We’re of course partial to Charleston, but here’s the truth. There are many similarities however there are some differences in our opinion: 

  • Both cities are historic and beautiful. 
  • Both cities are extremely walkable. Savannah, with it’s park-like squares maybe more walkable than Charleston. 
  • Charleston has a more established and food scene with many more options. 
  • Charleston has better hotels and shopping.
  • Both cities have equally good tours.

  • In Savannah you can walk with alcoholic beverages on the street. This is not allowed in Charleston. This can be good or bad depending on your stance. 
  • Savannah is more affordable.
