How to Tackle Charleston’s Busiest Weekend

Maybe you’ve heard there are just a couple of things going on in Charleston this weekend. If you’re feeling really ambitious, you can tackle all of them!

Start the weekend with an all-new show “Rock and Roll is Here to Stay!” at the Charleston Music Hall. Long-time Charleston entertainers Brad and Jennifer Moranz are setting a teenage love story to beloved rock and roll hits from the 1950s and early 1960s. Grab a ticket for the 7 p.m. Friday show.

Cooper River Bridge RunNow, hurry home and get your rest for the Cooper River Bridge Run bright and early on Saturday morning. Thousands of runners and walkers make their way across the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge spanning the Cooper River for one of the largest 10K races in the world.

After the run, fuel up with a hearty breakfast and grab a shower before driving to Summerville for the annual Flowertown Festival. Stroll through Azalea Park to catch a colorful show of pink azaleas, purple wisteria and white dogwood all in full bloom. Bring your wallet and shop the more than 200 jury-selected artists and their wares. Plus, sample food from local restaurants and take the kids on some rides.

See if you can squeeze in a quick nap before catching Hootie & The Blowfish at Bulls Bay Concert at 7:15 p.m.

Saturday at the North Charleston Performing Arts Center.

Sleep in a on Sunday because, well, let’s face it, you’re wiped! Eat brunch at your favorite Charleston restaurant and then enjoy an afternoon at the Lowcountry Cajun Festival at James Island County Park. Take in the Zydeco music, kids’ activities and Cajun and Creole foods like jambalaya, alligator, etouffe, andouille sausage and crawfish.

Now we’re at Sunday night where it might be a great time to relax on the couch and get ready for the week ahead and another busy and fun Charleston weekend.

Getting Around Charleston, SC

We’re of course partial to Charleston, but here’s the truth. There are many similarities however there are some differences in our opinion: 

  • Both cities are historic and beautiful. 
  • Both cities are extremely walkable. Savannah, with it’s park-like squares maybe more walkable than Charleston. 
  • Charleston has a more established and food scene with many more options. 
  • Charleston has better hotels and shopping.
  • Both cities have equally good tours.

  • In Savannah you can walk with alcoholic beverages on the street. This is not allowed in Charleston. This can be good or bad depending on your stance. 
  • Savannah is more affordable.
