If your Charleston vacation includes man’s best friend, you’ll be happy to know several area hotels allow pets. Plus, Charleston has plenty of dog parks and green space where you both can get some exercise and experience the beauty (and, for the dogs, the scents) of Charleston.
Some luxury hotels like the Wentworth Mansion and Charleston Place allow pets as do the Vendue Inn and the Inn at Middleton Place. Be sure to call ahead to request one of the pet-friendly room. Some hotels have weight restrictions and may require a deposit or extra fee.
For some fresh air and exercise, head to one of Charleston’s area dog parks. Within the city of Charleston, several public parks have dog-designated areas. Cannon Park at 131 Rutledge Ave. has a large off-leash area for dogs to play and run. Hampton Park, 30 Mary Murray Drive, is one of the city’s largest parks with plenty of open space and trails for walking dogs and playing a game of fetch.
The Charleston County Parks also have dog parks at their facilities on James Island, North Charleston and in Mount Pleasant. They have sections for large and small dogs, and the facility as James Island has a large lake for a doggie swim.
Many pet owners love to take their dogs to the beach, but please be aware of the restrictions and rules when it comes to taking your dog to the beach, especially during the busy summer months. Check out one of our previous blogs posts on taking your dog to the beach.
