Charleston picked up a cool new accolade this week: No. 22 on Travel + Leisure’s list of America’s Best Cities for Hipsters. Sure we know Charleston is cultured, refined and historic and now we can add “hip” to the list.
Travel + Leisure called out Upper King Street as a “hot zone” along with local commodities like Affordabike’s custom beach cruisers and Magar Hatworks for some stylin’ headgear.
We have a lively music scene, cool tech startups and plenty of outdoor festivals and events that make our city hip. What would you say makes Charleston hip? Let’s hear your ideas!
Also, Architectural Digest featured Charleston, offering its picks for where to shop, stay and dine in the Holy City. Among its favorites were boutique hotel Restoration on King and five-star Charleston Place as places to rest your weary traveling head.
When it comes to eating, the magazine gave a nod to media darling Husk and Sean Brock’s other restaurant, McCrady’s. Also on the list were The Grocery, Macintosh and Two Boroughs Larder with its lamb belly and cheeses.
Topping Architectural Digest’s list of places to see are the Gibbes Museum of Art, Fort Sumter, Joseph Manigault House and Drayton Hall.
