For the fourth year in a row, Charleston has been named the 2014 best city in the United States. Today, Conde Nast Traveler announced the results of its 27th annual Readers’ Choice Awards and, once again, the Holy City took the top spot in the United States. Charleston was also ranked No. 2 in the world, coming in just behind Florence, Italy.
Conde Nast Traveler senior editor Lindsay Talbot says a visit to Charleston starts with a walk along the waterfront. She also encourages visitors to take a walk down Rainbow Row with its beautiful homes. “I love Charleston because the colors of the houses are just unreal,” says Talbot. “It’s just a dazzling array of pastels.” And don’t forget the Charleston food scene. Two of her favorites are Husk and The Ordinary.
Two other Charleston spots finding their way into the awards are the Wentworth Mansion coming in at No. 25 on the list of Top 25 Hotels in the United States. And on the list of Top 25 Resorts in the United States, The Sanctuary Hotel at Kiawah Island Golf Resort was rated No. 20.
The Readers’ Choice Awards are announced in the November issue of Conde Nast Traveler, on newsstands nationwide on Oct. 28, 2014. The full list is published online at www.CNTraveler.com/rca.
